TOM KAVANAGH

Tom is one of Ireland's leading insolvency experts, having carried out many high profile assignments over the years, including many on the instructions of Ireland's major Financial Institutions, Companies and State Agencies. Tom's main area of focus is in the area of Receiverships, Examinerships, and Turnarounds.

Tom holds a BComm from UCD and trained in Deloitte & Touche. Tom is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) and holds a UK Insolvency Licence. He is a Member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners.

Tom was the author of "A Practical Guide to Insolvency" published by CAI in Autumn 2009 and lectures on the CAI Diploma in Insolvency and in other courses for the CAI. Tom was also a presenter on insolvency at 2010 annual conferences for both CAI and the Institute of Taxation

KEN FENNELL

Ken has worked in the insolvency field for the past 20 years and is recognised as one of Ireland's leading insolvency professionals with in excess of 300 insolvency appointments. Ken has worked on a wide variety of assignments in both the large and SME business sectors and is an advisor to Ireland's leading banks on distressed businesses and to major trading Companies in distress.

Ken is a Member of the Institute of Accounting Technicians of Ireland (IATI). Ken is also a Member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners (ISIP) and an Affiliate of Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI). 

Some of Ken's recent assignments include: Fixed Asset Receiver over large portfolio of residential and investment properties; Receiver to A-Wear group of companies comprising 40 retail outlets; Receiver to large portfolio of investment assets; Receiver to group of commercial retail units and Receiver over a trading retail store.

DAVID VAN DESSEL

David has worked in Insolvency and Corporate Recovery for over 15 years and has taken Receivership, Court Liquidations and Creditors' Voluntary Liquidation Assignments.In addition to Insolvency and Corporate Recovery assignments, David specialises in Forensic Accounting and Members' Voluntary Liquidation, which both require a keen eye for detail.

David is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), having been admitted as a Member in 1998 and is a Business Graduate of Trinity College, Dublin. David is a member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners (ISIP). David trained in the Corporate Recovery Department of Deloitte & Touche. During this time, David specialised on various Corporate Recovery Assignments, which involved the management and sale of companies that had hit a cash crisis.

David's current areas of activity include:

  • Examinership – Keen supporter of the examinership process
  • Creditors Voluntary Liquidation as a method of preserving goodwill through continuation to trade when Examinership is not an option
  • Very active in the area of Fixed Charge Receivership

MÍCHEÁL LEYDON

Mícheál graduated from University College Dublin in 1998 with an honours degree in commerce. Míchaél joined kavanaghfennell in 1998 where he completed his training contract with Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) and was admitted as a Member in 2002. Mícheál is also a Member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners (ISIP), the ISIP Law Reform Committee and the Technical Committee of the Irish Institute of Credit Management.

Mícheál has over 14 years insolvency and recovery experience and he has worked on over 1000 corporate, personal and partnership insolvency projects during this time. Mícheál was the internal editor and co-author of "A Practical Guide to Insolvency" published by CAI in Autumn 2009 and has again filled this role for the 2nd edition of the book which is due for release in the near future.  Mícheál regularly presents insolvency and corporate recovery seminars and now lectures for CAI on their Insolvency Diploma and Personal Insolvency Practitioner training course.

Mícheál is certified by CAI as an insolvency practitioner, licenced by the Insolvency Service of Ireland as a Personal Insolvency Practitioner and became a Partner in kavanaghfennell in 2012.

GLENN BRADLEY 

Glenn joined kavanaghfennell in June 2010 and specialises in providing business and debt advisory services to enterprises, individuals and lenders. He holds significant experience in the areas of business analysis, debt structuring and project finance.

Glenn previously worked as a Senior Manager at AIB and over his 14 years in business lending with the bank gained a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of business, capital structure and cash flow management.

Glenn is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), holds a BComm from UCD and an MBA from the UCD Smurfit School of Business.

ANDREW BYRNE

Andrew joined kavanaghfennell in 2004. Andrew previously worked in the Corporate Recovery Department of Deloitte & Touche. Andrew is an Associate of the Institute Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (ICSA) and is a Member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners (ISIP).

Andrew has over 16 years of insolvency and corporate recovery experience and has worked on numerous corporate recovery and insolvency projects including Creditors' Voluntary Liquidations, Court Liquidations, trading and fixed asset Receiverships. He has significant experience in both building project completion, retail portfolio management and asset realisations. Andew regularly presents at insolvency and corporate recovery seminars.

JAMES ANDERSON

James is a Manager in Corporate Restructuring & Insolvency at kavanaghfennell and leads a team that manages a large portfolio of distressed corporate and personal insolvency assignments.

James holds an honours degree in Accounting and is a member of the Chartered Accountants Ireland (ACA). James lectures in the Chartered Accountants Ireland Diploma in Insolvency and is also a Member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners (ISIP).

James joined kavanaghfennell in 2004 and has worked on over 400 insolvency assignments. James has significant experience in the trading/ disposal of distressed businesses and the management / achievement of agreed exit strategies for significant property portfolios.

MARK DEGNAN

Mark holds an honours degree in Arts in Accounting. Mark joined kavanaghfennell in 2006 where he completed his training contract with the Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) and is also a Member of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners (ISIP). Mark has 8 years insolvency and corporate recovery experience and has also worked directly within one of Ireland's financial institutions on secondment role for twelve months.

Mark has worked on various corporate recovery and insolvency projects including Receiverships, Court Liquidations, Creditors' Voluntary Liquidations and Examinerships. Mark has developed specific experience in the distressed retail and hospitality sectors along with managing a large distressed property portfolio to include build out projects for all of Ireland's leading financial institutions.

COLIN GAYNOR 

Colin is a corporate recovery & insolvency manager with kavanaghfennell.

Colin joined kavanaghfennell in 2007 and has significant experience in corporate restructuring & insolvency.  Colin has worked on over 300 insolvency assignments including corporate and fixed charge receiverships, examinerships, liquidations, pre-pack transactions, loan sales and personal insolvency cases.

Colin holds an honours degree in Business Studies in Accounting and Finance. Colin is also a member Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and of the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners (ISIP).

KATRINA MEAGHER

Katrina joined kavanaghfennell in 2009. She holds an honours degree in Engineering (BE) from UCD and a Masters in Management Science (MMSc) also from UCD. Katrina's experience prior to kavanaghfennell was in Audit. Katrina was admitted as a Member of the Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) in 2009 and completed a Diploma in Corporate Finance with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2011.

Since joining kavanaghfennell Katrina has principally been involved in conducting Independent Business Reviews for all the principal financial institutions operating in the country.

These reviews have been across a broad spectrum of sectors ranging from intensive trading activities to passive investment.

The principal sectors that Katrina specialises in are retail, construction and property, licensed trade and media and broadcasting.

DAMIAN WATTERS

Damian joined kavanaghfennell in 2011 and holds an honours degree in Business Commerce. Damian was admitted as a Member of the Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) in 2004. Damian previously worked as manager in General Practice prior to joining kavanaghfennell and has extensive experience in dealing with a diverse range of clients.

VINCENT SOROHAN

Vincent Sorohan joined kavanaghfennell in December 2012 from a Big 4 firm having previously spent 4 years in the United Kingdom working in insolvency and corporate recovery. 

Having originally trained in kavanaghfennell, Vincent has gained over 9 years insolvency and corporate recovery experience in both Ireland and the United Kingdom and has worked on a wide variety of formal insolvency appointments including Receiverships, Court Liquidations, Creditor Voluntary Liquidations and Administrations as well as dealing with a significant number of accelerated merger and acquisition processes.

Gavin joined kavanaghfennell in 2013 and holds an honours degree in Economics. Gavin previously worked in Banking for 6 years specialising in Credit Management and Restructuring. Gavin also holds a Diploma in Insolvency from Chartered Accountants Ireland.

EIBHILIN MARRON

Eibhilín joined kavanaghfennell in 2008 and has an honours Bachelor of Business Studies degree, majoring in Accounting and Finance from the University of Limerick. Eibhilín is a Member of Chartered Accountants Ireland and the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners.

Eibhilín has over 5 years insolvency experience in liquidations, receivership and forensics. Eibhilín currently specialises in property receiverships and manages a large portfolio of assets on behalf of a number of high profile clients.

BRENDAN O'REILLY

Brendan joined kavanaghfennell in 2012 and has an honours Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and human resource management and a Masters of Science in Accounting and Finance. Brendan is a Member of Chartered Accountants Ireland and the Irish Society of Insolvency Practitioners. Brendan has over 2 years insolvency specific experience and 4 years prior experience in Audit and Advisory.

Brendan specialises in Corporate and Personal Receiverships with significant experience in working on distressed trading and development Companies with large property portfolios.

DARYLL MCKENNA

Daryll holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Masters in Accountancy from the National University of Ireland, Galway. Daryll joined kavanaghfennell in September 2009 and is currently a finalist with Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI).

CONOR EGAN

Conor holds an honours degree in Commerce (International) specialising in Accounting and French from University College Dublin. Conor has completed his accounting exams and is awaiting admission to Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) pending completion of his training contract. Conor is also currently undertaking his tax exams through the Chartered Tax Consultant programme with CAI.

Conor has over 3 years insolvency and corporate recovery experience and has worked on various corporate recovery and insolvency projects including Personal and Corporate Receiverships, Court Liquidations and Creditors' Voluntary Liquidations. Conor also has experience in working on distressed trading companies.

Conor is currently seconded out to one of the major Irish banks where he is part of a team managing distressed property portfolios.

JOHN DOHERTY
John holds an honours degree in Commerce specialising in Accounting from University College Dublin and a Masters in Accounting (MBS) degree from Dublin City University. John is a finalist with Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI).

RORY O'CONNOR

Rory O'Connor joined kavanaghfennell in November 2012 as a senior accountant having previously specialised in Financial Services Audit with KPMG Ireland. A graduate of University College Cork with a BsC in Finance, Rory is a Chartered Accountant and was admitted to Chartered Accountants Ireland (CAI) in 2011. Previous experience includes both Corporate Receiverships and Forensic Accounting; Rory also has completed work on a number of personal Receiverships.
